12 January, 2017, Nakhodka. Russian largest coal stevedore JSC “Vostochny Port”, a member of the port coal holding “Managing Port Company Ltd.”, has summarized its 2016 year results. “Vostochny Port” transshipped 23.5 million tons of coal and set up a national record in coal transshipment annual rates. The cargo turnover of the Company increased by 3.4% (778 thousand tons) as compared with 2015.

“The achieved performance figures resulted from the long-term investment program launched in 2011. Cargo turnover of the port will grow further facilitated by commissioning the port Phase 3 in 2017”, - comments JSC “Vostochny Port” Managing Director Anatoly Lazarev.

In December 2016, “Vostochny Port” handled 1.9 million tons of coal (+1% to December 2015 performance), which is a historical maximum for the Company operations in this month, because frozen coal handling is generally more time consuming.

During 2016 the stevedore company discharged 324 thousand open cars with coal, including more than 190 thousand (60%) extra load open cars. The maximum number of cars ever handled per day was recorded by the port in November 2016: 1,050 cars (more than 70 thousand tons of coal). 526 vessels were loaded at the port berths, including 235 (45%) panamax bulk carriers and 23 (4.4%) capesize vessels.

South Korea became a leader among the countries receiving coal products from “Vostochny Port” making up 41% of the cargo turnover. Japan (26%) was the second in the list, China (11%) was the third.

Responsibility in the sphere of environmental safety has been traditionally important for the company. The total amount of JSC “Vostochny Port” investments into environmental actions in 2016 was 32.3 million rubles. The funds were allocated for increasing efficiency of the dust prevention systems installed on the coal pouring (discharging) sites, soil, waste and rain water treatment. Data of the ecological monitoring, which is conducted by accredited laboratories on a regular basis, showed improvement of the port performance. All the taken samples complied with the norms. In December 2016,  JSC “Vostochny Port” and Nakhodka Municipal Administration signed an agreement for environmental safety cooperation for 5 years.

The increase in JSC “Vostochny Port” performance figures is considerable both for the company and for the region, because the company is a major taxpayer of Primorye Region. The stevedore company deductions to the local and regional budgets upon results of 2016 amounted to about 4 billion rubles.

In December 2016,  JSC “Vostochny Port” became a resident of the Free Port of Vladivostok with the investment project for the construction of the Coal Transshipment Complex Phase 3 in Nakhodka Municipality. Within the scope of the agreement with the Far East Development Corporation, the project will raise 17.2 billion rubles of investments and create 619 jobs.
